5 out of 5 stars Very very good   July 20, 2009

This lawn mower is very expensive if you go for the battery powered option but I decided to treat myself and I think its brilliant. Its great not having the cable like on my previous Flymo. Of course you could get a petrol mower but I needed something light as I have to carry it through my terraced house to get to the front lawn. Its light and gives a very good cut and the flexibility to adapt the cutting length just by flicking a switch it brilliant. A hundred times better than the Flymo I had, battery powered or not.

Bosch Rotak 34 Li - Cordless Rotary Mower

I have tried all types of mower and wanted something which could cope with a large back lawn, a tiny front lawn and an allotment! Motor mowers are good but very heavy and awkward and too large for the front lawn. Electric mowers cannot be used on my allotment and I had tried a cheaper cordless mower which was just not up to the job.

This is pretty expensive but definitely worth it. I found it simple to assemble - it only took about five minutes and once the battery was charged, which took about half an hour, I was ready to go.

Both back and front lawns were done brilliantly on one charge of the battery and after another half hour charge, I was ready to tackle the allotment. The mower is light enough to put in the boot of my three door car with the handle folded down, and that took only seconds. It coped with all the ups and downs of my allotment which is the complete opposite of bowling-greeen smooth! The fact that it cuts right to the edge is an added bonus as it means less strimming.

Although this mower is rather expensive, I think it is worth the money. It is light, manoeuverable, robust and does a great job.

5 out of 5 stars I'd give it more stars if I could   August 5, 2009

I got home tonight around 7, opened the box, plugged the charger in and inserted the battery. Whilst it was charging, I assembled it (which wasn't difficult as it's virtually ready out of the box) and at just past 8 the battery was charged up. I feared that something which promises so much would be a let down but by 8.30, I'd mowed my modest lawn (about 25' x 40' but with about 3 weeks growth - nearly 10 inches high in places) and packed it away feeling that I'd just spent possibly the best £199 I'd ever spend on my garden.
Yes it does feel a bit on the fragile side but that's compared to a mountfield metal bodied petrol lawnmower. To be honest, you'd have to be really brutal with it to break it I'd suggest. I will say though that the blade is razor sharp which I'm sure is one of the main reasons for it's effectiveness and only time will tell (and lack of attention - how many people actually get their blades sharpened every year?) just how good it is. Yet there is one more detail that I was surprised at, it will cut right up to a vertical edge reducing the time you spend with the strimmer - in fact I didn't bother tonight.
If you cross the positives of a petrol mower and an electric mower and discount any of the negatives, you have virtually the perfect small lawn mower. Lithium ion batteries offer so much more and is a technology definitely worth paying the extra for, in fact after my mowing, the battery still had 2 out of the maximum 3 green lights illuminated.
Finally, it's wonderfully lightweight. No more 10 point turns with a heavy petrol mower just to go in the opposite direction and it stripes too! It's sure to get the thumbs up with the female gardeners but this male one is mighty please as well... and I haven't even banged on about how quiet it is....

5 out of 5 stars Hi-Tech Mowing!   May 14, 2009

We only have a small garden, but it was too much for our hover mower. The grass looked like it had been stamped on by a herd of elephants, and blisters were commonplace! At first we thought about a corded Rotak mower, however, for what seemed just a little more money, we could buy this! No cables, charges in 1 hour, and the blade slices through thick grass effortlessly. I decided on this model as my theory is that as the blade diameter is smaller than the Rotak 37 and 40, the electric motor shouldn't have to apply as much torque to keep the blade spinning through long grass...... We've mowed our lawn (5m x 15m) twice on a pretty low setting and there's still 2 green lights on the battery! The only drawback would be the fact that as the blade is Aluminium, it will need sharpening a little more often than usual if your lawn is prone to having stones flicked onto it from, perhaps, a driveway or grave path. Sharpening is easy however, and takes just minutes with a small file or sharpening stone.

Overall, excellent product. Hope it lasts me for years to come!

I found the pack easy to put together and the battery easy to install. I was slightly flumoxed by the "key" looking for a actual key but realised very quickly that it was not key shaped!

I had previously had a battery operated mower but the Rotak was much lighter and the battery lasts much longer. In fact, I would have needed 4 charges of my old mower to achieve what one charge did with the Rotak.

An excellent buy and it arrived only 2 dys after I ordered it.
